How is colostrum collected?

Colostrum is expressed by hand. A mechanical breast pump has too many surfaces for the colostrum to stick to.

The droplets can be quite tiny. 

Colostrum can be collected two to three times each day in the same syringe.

How is colostrum stored?

You will need to store the colostrum syringe in the fridge between uses.

At the end of the collecting day, the colostrum can be frozen. 

Note the date of expression before putting into the freezer.
